Our first wedding reception of the year ! This is the fourth time Kahootz has performed a reception in the Popular Reading Room at the Boston Public Library. We were thrilled to be a part of the new Mrs. and Mr. Cathy and Daniel Lewenberg’s special day. Cathy and Daniel were very clear to me they wanted a GREAT party! Cathy wanted lots of current music – but enough of the classic material to see her family was pleased. Daniel loves classic rock and his family has a special love of music from the band “Dire Straights”. In fact they asked if we would learn “Walk of Life” for his family. When we started that tune the room exploded with Lewenberg’s of all ages coming from everywhere to hit the dance floor. Towards the end of the night one of Daniel’s buddies came up to tell us that Daniel is famous for doing the worm at every party he goes to. Please understand Daniel is about 6’5′ ! One of the best kept secrets in Rhode Island is Blithewold Mansion. Most people know about the amazing mansions in Newport but this place with it’s amazing grounds that reach right to the water, beautiful gardens for a ceremony and their permanent tent is a true gem. We had the pleasure of working once again with event planner Wendy Joblin on this affair for Rachel Phillips and Josh Saltman. As you can see from the pictures we had folks of all ages on the dance floor. Just what our bride and groom wanted!

I love it when a client comes to me and says they have a low key crowd and then they end up with a raging party. That was exactly the case for the new Mr & Mrs Shawn Anthony. They danced their first dance to” I Could Not Ask For More” by Edwin McCain. Some of their favorites we played that night were Katy Perry’s Firework and Pitbull’s “Give Me Everything”

Jay, the Groom, loves classic R&B. We’re not talking Motown we’re talking James Brown, Otis Redding and The Isley Brothers. After Mr & Mrs Jay Hirsh were introduced into the room they went straight to the dance floor and did their first dance to Bob Marley’s “Is This Love”. After that we did a ten minute Hora where everyone was on the dance floor. From the Hora Jay asked if we could play “Get Up Off Of That Thing” by James Brown. Now that’s how you start a party if you ask me!!!!!

When I met with Ellen the bride her directions to me were short and sweet: get everyone on the dance floor and give us the best party ever! They wanted a ton or current music as well as favorites by the Beatles, the Stones and 80′s classics. The bride danced with her father to “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling”. He called us months before to ask that this be kept a secret. Robb, the groom, danced with his mother to Frank Sinatra’s “Young at Heart”. It was a very appropriate choice as she and Robb’s dad were on the dance floor the entire night. I Think the photos speak for themselves as far as “best party ever”!

When the bride’s dad gave his welcome and toast to the bride and the groom he made a joke that Pamela was the only “earthy/crunchy girl with an extensive Jimmy Choo shoe collection. The bride and groom live in Boulder CO where besides being in love with each other they love to appreciate the outdoors in every way possible by hiking, camping, skiing etc. What they wanted was an amazing party, in arguably one of the classiest spots in the city while at the same time the affair having as little pretense as possible. After all the formalities they just wanted to relax and have a great time with their best friends and family. Besides wanting a wide variety of different styles of music the bride loves music from the 50′s. So besides contemporary and classic dance material we made sure there was some Chubby Checker, Elvis and Dion and the Belmonts for her to especially enjoy. The party was amazing but one of the highlights of the evening is when Linda, the brides mom, came up on the bandstand and gave us a hand with some back ups. We especially want to thank Mark Schwindenhammer & the staff from the Madarin for making this gig as easy and as organized for us as it could possibly be.

This past week end we were at the fabulous State Room in Boston doing a wedding reception for the new Mr & Mrs Katie and Brook Ames. This night was an absolute joy. When Katie & Brook heard we were going to perform for the Snowball last December they decided they’d join the other 1100 plus people that were their to support Boston’s Santa Claus Anonymous Foundation. When we met to go though details for the reception they told me to just do what we did at the Snowball: play a huge variety of music and keep everyone on the dance floor. I think the pictures speak for themselves. In case you’ve not seen Boston’s State Room I’ve included a couple of pics so you can see the view from the windows. Among the music we performed that night we learned the new Bruno Mars song “Lazy Song”. Tim killed it!!!!!

We did amazing parties in 2010! Although most of our dates were in or around Boston, we traveled to Nantucket, New Jersey, New York and Vermont. 7/2/10 Marriott Quincy Wedding

I think this may be the eighth wedding we’ve through this family. In fact we did another earlier this year at the Hyatt Harborside. Danielle and Gary made it very clear they wanted everyone on the dance floor and music played for every generation. (our favorite kind of party!!!!!) Their dinner reception was food station style and the truth is we couldn’t get people off the dance floor to go through the station lines. As you can see it was a blast!

One of our very favorite places to work is the Wychmere Harbor Club. The biggest reason is Karen Rude who’s one of the top wedding professionals on the Cape. You won’t find anyone more knowledgeable or helpful. So when we got incited to be a part of the new Mr and Mrs Chrissy and Ryan Donahue’s wedding we couldn’t have been more thrilled. The ceremony took place in the courtyard on the opposite side the club. They wanted a duo of trumpet and keyboards for the music. Randy played keys and we hired one of the top classical trumpet players as the other half. Cocktail were on the back patio and Randy moved his keyboard set up in order to accommodate this. Then everyone moved inside the ballroom for the dinner reception. The Bride and Groom’s firs dance was I Love You Just the Way you Are by Billy Joel. After initial formalities the Bride and Groom wanted a polite dinner party until after dinner when they wanted a blow out. Check out the pics – they got what they wanted !
