Top Ten New England Estates for a Wedding
As one of the top Boston wedding bands, Kahootz, loves playing at New England’s classic old homes and mansions and has had many great nights in these beautiful places. The mansions, estates and the well-tended grounds are a part of this region’s golden past and a testament to a lot of effort to preserve them for future generations to enjoy. For these reasons and many more, Kahootz decided to give a nod to these grand dames of the golden age – as it brings back fond memories of some great music for great people. Combining a great Boston wedding band with a great old estate has all the makings of a classic.
Here is a list of ten of the great estates in and around the southern New England area where Kahootz has performed:
The Great House on Castle Hill
The band has had a great summer season and wrapped up a great night of dancing and performing for one of our clients at The Great House on Castle Hill. What a great setting for a summer wedding. Castle Hill is part of The Crane Estate, encompassing more than 2,100 acres overlooking Crane Beach, Crane Wildlife Refuge, and winding salt marshes. The exclusive use of the Great House makes a wedding both private and regal. Built above beautiful Crane Beach and Ipswich Bay, The Great House on the Crane Estate offers a unique setting for weddings complete with the perfect half-mile-long manicured lawn, The Grand Allée, which leads to the sea. The Great House accommodates up to 200 guests inside, but with tenting will seat up to 320 guests. Well worth it for the views and the great vibe!
The Estate at Moraine Farm
The Estate at Moraine Farm is a spectacular setting for a wedding or special event. This historic property is set on 175 acres, much of which is conservation land and forest, and has views of beautiful Wenham Lake. The Estate at Moraine Farm is unique in that it is absolutely secluded and intimate, yet surrounded by vast woodlands. It is a rare gem on the north shore of Massachusetts.
Misselwood at Endicott College
Misselwood offers a particularly beautiful and stunning setting for outdoor ceremonies and receptions. The perfect grounds, walking paths, private lawns, and breathtaking views of the ocean set the state for the ultimate outdoor wedding dream. French doors open out to a courtyard and patio surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds, and the stunning ocean views.
Willowdale Estate
Built in 1901 and originally the summer retreat of prominent Boston businessman Mr. Bradley Palmer, the ornate fieldstone mansion and grounds – originally known as Willow Dale re-opened in 2007 and is now called Willowdale Estate offering elegantly catered events. This beautiful estate is located in Topsfield, MA.
Rosecliff Mansion
The Rosecliff Mansion is one of Newport’s finest mansions and it is spectacular playing there. Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini. There is definitely a lot of magic happening at Rosecliff – really one of the band’s favorite Newport mansions. What an address, too, on beautiful Bellevue Avenue.
Rosecliff is now preserved through the generosity of its last private owners, Mr. and Mrs. J. Edgar Monroe, of New Orleans. They gave the house, its furnishings, and an endowment to the Preservation Society in 1971. The mansion features the largest ballroom in Newport, and a heart-shaped staircase perfect for a bride coming down the stairs. The Rosecliff ballroom can accommodate up to 220 guests for a seated dinner with dance area which is where Kahootz comes in to make a special night unforgettable.
The Mansion on Turner Hill
Built in 1903 as a private residence, Kahootz just had the honor of playing at a fantastic wedding there. Located on 315 acres of perfectly manicured gardens and terraces surrounded by towering pines and ponds, the mansion now hosts spectacular weddings and will undergo a grand refurbishment next year.
Blithewold Mansion
Blithewold, named in Yankee Magazine’s 2010 Best 5 Public Gardens in New England, is located on Narragansett Bay, 25 minutes east of Providence and 60 minutes south of Boston. Blithewold, a 33-acre summer estate with grand views of Narragansett Bay, is a very cool place for a wedding band to play. It features a 45-room mansion filled with an exceptional collection of rare and unusual plants, specimen trees, an accessible greenhouse, and stonework. Fantastic place for a “green” wedding!
Tupper Manor
Tupper Manor at the Wylie Inn and Conference Center is a premier waterfront property, located 20 miles north of Boston on the historic North Shore. The Manor has extensive terraces and peaceful formal gardens and can accommodate functions with up to 200 guests between the months of May and October. Tupper Manor offers an incomparable setting on the lovely north shore coast – once called the “Gold Coast” in the late 1800s.
Weddings at Tupper Manor are elegant. The lovely fountain welcomes you to the property opening to the Manor’s historic architecture and beautiful interior. The marble foyer is surrounded by stunning floor to ceiling mirrors and a striking curved staircase. Tall French doors lead to a glass-enclosed conservatory. Tupper Manor is also surrounded by spectacular ocean views that provide the ideal backdrop for a wedding.
Glenn Manor House
Built in the 1920s in the French chateau style, Glen Manor once belonged to a single wealthy family whose particular passion was the landscape and gardens on the estate, but the Portsmouth, R.I. mansion is also exquisite. The estate is now managed by the Glen Manor House Authority who arrange for special functions including weddings, receptions, and private gatherings. The Manor has extensive terraces and peaceful formal gardens that can accommodate both casual and formal events. The Manor House can accommodate functions with up to 200 guests between the months of May and October. Capacity during the months of November through April vary depending on event type.
The Lyman Estate
Designed in 1793 for wealthy shipping merchant Theodore Lyman, the estate was the home of the prominent Lyman family for more than 150 years. Six rooms are available for guest use and it is ideal for a medium-sized wedding in a spectacular setting. The oval parlor with its original, hand-carved woodwork; a dramatic Victorian library; the east parlor and the dining room, where light streams in through bay windows; the ballroom, with its crystal chandeliers, classical columns, and marble fireplace make it unforgettable. There is also a grand staircase with a Palladian window which provides a perfect spot for photographs. On the second floor, there is a beautifully furnished brides room. The mansion is fully air conditioned but that doesn’t stop our band from playing sizzling hot music or warm melodies. We love to see our clients taking a swirl on a real ballroom dance floor, and we love to play the classics – classic estates, that is … and music!
